I had the great fortune of attending an event for local candidates in my area over the weekend. It was a great opportunity to see God working through each of the candidates as they answered the call to run for public office.
It is so important that we place ourselves in positions to be utilized by God. In this current climate, that is easier said than done.
The reason is that if you choose to answer the call and truly represent Christ accurately, you will immediately create enemies. There is a real battle in the culture as to what worldview we will accept. The secular worldview or the biblical worldview.
Unfortunately, too many christians and churches choose to stay on the sidelines. They would rather stay in the comfort of their air conditioned sanctuaries and cast dispersions on those who choose to engage this culture.
When we, the body of Christ, refuse to share the true and living gospel with a dying world, we are responsible for their demise. Yes, we are responsible because we have the life giving and life sustaining power, yet we choose to keep it to ourselves.
Case in point, the 5th leading cause of death for black men is homicide. Think about that. Not diabetes or hypertension. Homicide.
Black men are being murdered over disrespect or over non consequential preseason little league football games.
However, instead of using the authority that Christ has given us to bring light into darkness, we choose to deflect and blame the system. Or, we blame the environment.
While there is a kernel of truth to each, at the end of the day, solutions matter. Not platitudes. Not gestures. Solutions.
When the church refuses to be the starting and end point for problem solving, the problems will not be solved. It doesn’t matter who is elected in November.
This is because politics are downstream from culture. If we don’t fix the culture, then policies will continue to delve further and further into the abyss.
A woke church leads to compromised Christians. Compromised Christians embrace cultural degeneracy all in the name of tolerance.
It takes a strong church to enact change in the land. Not a strong candidate.
Right now, I believe too many Christians are focusing on politicians and not on the church to rectify the mess in which we find ourselves.
We have to get our loyalties back in alignment.
It’s not about our favorite celebrity candidate. It’s about letting our good works so shine before men, that they glorify God.
Because in the end, that is all that matters.
We’ll said Brother Shawn! I appreciate your voice.
