In today’s society, we tend to want to label everything.
There are labels based upon whether you were born in America as a descendant of slaves (ADOS) or some may say FBAs (Foundational Black Americans).
People label themselves based upon their personal activity. The LGBTQ crowd comes to mind.
Others label themselves based upon the activity of others. This is very prevalent with sports fans. When the Eagles won the Super Bowl, there were plenty of fans saying “we” won.
The root of all of these labels is a yearning for identity.
As humans we all want to identify with something.
We are looking to find our worth in something.
We are looking for our own party to side with that shares our same values.
However, the danger with this is that not everyone in a group may share our principles and beliefs in every way.
One may look the part, yet when the opportunity presents itself to stand for those principles and beliefs, some people will fold.
This past week has truly crystallized to me that labeling oneself a conservative means very different things.
There used to be an assumption, at least in my eyes, that being a conservative meant you believed in Biblical truth.
It meant that you stood on what the Word of God says, no matter what.
Welcome to reality!
From Conservatives congratulating Elon Musk’s latest baby momma,
to championing a gay man and his “family”,
to the Trump Administration putting pressure on Romania to lift the restrictions on the Tate brothers,
it has become abundantly clear that conservative does not equate to Christian. Especially Biblical Christians.
And honestly, I’m good with that.
Jesus said you will know them by their fruits.
He also said,
'Let both grow together until the harvest, and at the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, “First gather together the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn.” ’ ”'

A tare is the equivalent of a grifter.
Grifting occurs when you come out in favor of a position not because of conviction, but because of commerce.
Grifters use the honest opinions and emotions of others to profit.
And the most sinister ones, use the stereotypes of a group in order to financially benefit themselves.
Unfortunately, a number of black conservatives fall in this camp.
The same ones calling out the destructive behavior of baby momma culture in the Black community were quick to embrace one of their “own”.
As believers, we must ensure we don’t fall into that grift.
