This IS what most Christian Conservatives MISS about MAGA!
MAGA is a political movement, not a Christian movement!
Matt Walsh is the latest conservative to miss the essence of the MAGA movement.
It is a movement that is based on populism, reminiscent of the populist movement in the early 1900s that led to the election of Teddy Roosevelt.
It is a reminder of what the Democratic Party was prior to the craziness of the last 60 years.
It is a movement where everyone is welcomed, union members, former adult actresses, Sikhs, Hindus, etc.
I know a lot of Christian Conservatives are clutching their pearls because of what has happened to their Grand Old Party.
Yet, what they don’t realize is that it was their reluctance to truly expand conservative principles which led to the takeover by Donald Trump.
By not rejecting the perception that the Republican Party was full of a bunch of old rich white men, it left the door open for someone to come in with a populist message and take it over.
Hence, Donald Trump.
Donald Trump is a shrewd businessman and showman.
He saw the disenfranchisement of working class Americans.
He saw that the Democratic Party had become the party of the coastal elites, whereas the Republican Party was the party of the Christian elite.
He saw a gap where he could pull in the disenfranchised working man, as well as those who may have conservative principles but weren’t welcomed in either party.
Now, he is just expanding that tent.
From a political perspective, it’s a shrewd move.
He will undoubtedly pull in a higher share of the minority vote than any other Republican presidential candidate.
He will pull in even more women than he did before.
He is doing something that the Republican Party could have never dreamed of before.
He has made being a Republican cool.
Now, as a Biblical Conservative, I understand that the new Republican Party will not reflect my values on social issues. It is a leftward drift that has culminated in the GOP 2024 platform.
However, I have never put my trust in a political party.
Politics is downstream from Culture.
Culture is downstream from the Church.
Reform the Church, influence the culture, transform politics.
Until then, hold on tight to those pearls!
