The Book of Ecclesiastes talks about how there is nothing new under the sun.
Meaning, something may appear to be novel, but at its core it is a repackaging of an idea or concept that has surfaced before.
Case in the point, the current push to provide affinity spaces and affinity groups.
On the surface, this would seem to be an attempt to provide community for “people of color”.
However, when you go a bit deeper, the detrimental affects this has on society is akin to the Jim Crow period in the Deep South.
America has always been a melting pot. The inscription on the Statue of Liberty mentions to give us your tired and you’re poor.
The intention being that here in America it does matter where you came from, all will have the same opportunity to achieve.
Our nation was founded on the idea of natural rights. Which says our rights come from God and not man.
Yet, this idea is an exception and not the rule in human history.
Due to the fall of man, mankind has perverted the command to dominate the earth.
We were created to use our authority to subdue the earth, not each other.
But, because the heart of man is wicked, men have sought ways to consolidate power at the expense of other humans.
That’s why slavery is one of the oldest enterprises and still exists to this day.
That’s why caste systems exist in India.
And that’s how Communist and Marxist governments thrive.
They thrive off of separating people into groups.
Because when people see themselves as part of the group more than an individual, then the populous can be controlled.
Group think is the mechanism that propels authoritarian behavior. No one wants to step outside of the group in fear of being ostracized.
So, all the work done by our parents and grandparents to remove the scourge of Jim Crow is being undone.
This past week, Robin DiAngelo, author of the divisive book, White Fragility, talked about how black people need to get away from white people.
This is no different than what Scott Adams said, yet there is no outcry.
Why is that?
Because she said black people should do this in order to have community with each other or affinity groups.
She also said that those in the workplace who do not conform should be removed.
This sounds eerily similar to the phraseology used by the Bull Conners of the world.
Desegregation had it positives and negatives, but it destroyed the idea of black inferiority.
When black people were given a fair opportunity to compete on equal footing, the notion of white supremacy was debunked.
Unfortunately, the artificial push for equity is trying to re-establish that notion.
