As we approach the celebration of the birth of Christ, undoubtedly we are reminded of the great love God has for us that He sent His Son to take our place.
Christ loves us so much that He laid down His life for us that we may have life and have it more abundantly.
This type of agape, or unconditional love, is our model when it comes to how Christians should relate to God.
We should understand the high price that was paid to redeem us and in turn unconditionally love God.
Yet, modern Christians do not love God unconditionally.
Most modern Christians have heard of how God loves them, but not what is required of them once they accept His love.
He requires obedience more than sacrifice.
He commands that no other god comes before Him.
He expects us to lay down our will to do His will.
Instead, modern Christians behave as if God did Himself a favor by giving us the free gift of salvation.
Modern Christians do not see the need to sacrifice their lives for the Kingdom of God.
Modern Christians love the world and the things of this world more than the things of God.
For example, Bishop Kevin Adams is a pastor in Atlanta.
Recently, he showed up at an Usher concert.
In my opinion, no Christian, let alone a pastor should be at an Usher concert.
Similarly, no Christian or Bishop should be at Diddy parties.
Not so, says the Modern Christian.
They are more than comfortable in those environments.
Bishop Adams went as far as to anoint Usher at the concert and said that the entertainer was doing the Lord’s work.
That’s where that intersectionality of Christianity and Celebrity comes into play.
Modern Christians conform to this world.
They go to celebrities and not the other way around.
Celebrities do not come to the Church and conform to it, as was the case in the past.
You didn’t see Billy Graham at a Johnny Cash concert.
Johnny Cash came to a Billy Graham crusade.
And that’s the difference between Modern Christians and Biblical Christians.
Modern Christians love the praise of celebrities more than the praise of God.
Where is the evidence? Did he ever give a public statement of his beliefs?
