In order for God’s Word to produce in our lives, there are certain conditions that must be met.
When reading the different accounts of the parable of the sower (Matthew 13:1-23, Mark 4:1-20, Luke 8:4-18), we see how Jesus clearly describes which soil(heart) will enable the Word of God to produce.
The Word of God has innate residual power.
However, that power will only be present in our lives when we meet the requirements.
In the Kingdom of God there are spiritual laws akin to the ones in the natural world.
We cannot violate the law of gravity.
If we believe that we can fly, try jumping from the roof. Gravity will quickly remind us of our aerial limitations.
In the same way, we cannot simply confess our way to Word production.
The following prerequisites must be present:
Spiritual Understanding
In Matthew, Jesus says about the ones on the wayside, that they hear the Word but do not understand it.
This opens the door for Satan to come and snatch that word from their hearts.
Whenever we hear God’s Word on a subject, we must take the time to study and meditate on that word.
Too many times, and I’ve done this as well, we hear something in church but we do not take the time to study and meditate on what we have heard.
This gives place for the enemy to produce doubt or simply turn our hearts away from what we have heard.
Then that word is lost.
Accept it
Working in tandem with understanding the Word is accepting it.
We must accept it into our hearts.
This means we recognize that this Word is for us.
When we do that we give it the proper attention that it deserves.
Hold on to it
In this life, we will have challenges that come because of the Word.
Therefore, we must hold fast to it as if our lives depend on it. Which they do.
When we hold on to the Word, it must be tight like a vice grip. Nothing will be able to penetrate and steal that Word from us.
No matter the circumstances or the opinions of others, we will hold God’s Word in high esteem.
A honest and good heart
God’s Word cannot produce consistently in a heart that is not honest and good.
We may see fruit sporadically, but to have the consistent production that we all desire, we must keep our hearts pure and clean.
We must cleanse ourselves of any impurities that would taint our hearts.
We must get rid of all hatred, malice, jealousy, envy, un-forgiveness, anger, strife, and anything else that is contrary to living a life that pleases God.
Only the pure in heart shall see Him.
In like manner, only the good and honest in heart will have a hundredfold return.
