Growing up, I was a huge fan of rap or hip hop.
My friends and I would take turns trying to rap to an instrumental beat. Given that neither of us could freestyle or flow, we usually became tongue tied or ran out of words after the hook.
For young black men, rap was the expression of the culture. From Yo MTV raps, to 106 and Park, hip hop was the culture of a generation.
Now, that culture has become depraved and is shrouded in death.
Early Tuesday Morning, Takeoff, a member of the Migos was shot and killed.
He was killed allegedly as a result of an argument during a dice game. A dice game.
A life was taken over something as trivial as a game of craps.
Yet, this is par for the course in the hip hop community. There is a litany of rappers whose lives have been cut short over nonsense.
Instead of resolving their disagreements respectfully, the end result is usually a hail of gunfire which more times than not takes the life of an artist.
What is driving this death culture?
As has been stated before, when the family unit is subverted and destroyed, the children suffer. When the family is destroyed, communities crumble. When communities crumble, culture darkens.
The culture of death that we see in Hip Hop is an extension of the culture of death that is prevalent in the black community.
When 50% of black babies in New York City are aborted, life is meaningless. The sanctity of life has been diminished in the eyes of the community.
It is nothing for someone to pull the trigger and take the life of another young black man. The person pulling the trigger does not value their life. Why would they value the life of the person at the other end of the barrel?
Besides, all of the music, that is produced by the gatekeepers, promotes murder, mayhem, and destruction. Rappers are paid handsomely to talk about smoking a …
When poison is constantly pumped into your soul, it will come out. Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. There is hurt, pain, anger, and rage in the hearts of the young people stuck in situations where they feel lifeless.
And without an adequate outlet to vent their frustrations, it usually is expressed in violence.
As believers, we must take it upon ourselves to be the beacon of light in the midst of the darkness. We have the life-giving Spirit inside of us. We have the solutions to the problems that plague all of society.
We must be about our Father’s business.
The harvest is truly ripe, but the laborers are few. Pray ye therefore for the Lord of the harvest to send forth laborers into the harvest.
Send me, I’ll go.
